Resize to 4000 × 3000 px in one step. That is a landscape (wide) 4:3 shape with 12,000,000 pixels in all, which counts as a very large image next to a modern camera photo.
The preset is named for Shutterstock. It outputs exactly 4000 × 3000 px; platforms change what they recommend from time to time, so confirm the current figure in Shutterstock's own help pages if exact compliance matters.
| Output size | 4000 × 3000 px |
|---|---|
| Aspect ratio | 4:3 (landscape) |
| Total pixels | 12,000,000 (12 MP) |
| Prints at 300 DPI | 13.3 × 10 in (33.9 × 25.4 cm) |
Fitting a photo into 4000 × 3000 px
Resizing to a fixed width and height only gives a clean result when the photo has the same shape as the target. A shape mismatch has two outcomes: the picture is stretched, or part of it is cropped. Crop first, then resize, so you decide what is cut. This is how much of each common photo would be lost to fill 4:3:
| Starting photo | Cropped away to fill the shape |
|---|---|
| Phone photo (4000 × 3000, 4:3) | Nothing: same shape |
| DSLR photo (6000 × 4000, 3:2) | About 11% of the image |
| Video frame (1920 × 1080, 16:9) | About 25% of the image |
| Portrait phone photo (3000 × 4000, 3:4) | About 44% of the image |
Size, quality and file weight
12,000,000 pixels saved as a JPG at web quality typically weigh about 1.14 MB to 3.43 MB, depending on how much detail the picture contains. Flat graphics and screenshots saved as PNG compress very well when colors are simple, and poorly when they contain photographic gradients.
This is a large image. If you only need it for the web, consider a smaller size or WebP/AVIF to keep the file lightweight.
How large can it be printed?
These figures follow from the pixel count: print size = pixels ÷ DPI. Going above the 300 DPI row gives no visible benefit; going below it looks softer.
| Quality | DPI | Print size |
|---|---|---|
| Screen-resolution draft | 72 | 55.6 × 41.7 in (141.1 × 105.8 cm) |
| Acceptable for posters | 150 | 26.7 × 20 in (67.7 × 50.8 cm) |
| Photo quality | 300 | 13.3 × 10 in (33.9 × 25.4 cm) |
About the Shutterstock preset
ResizeAny sets the output to 4000 × 3000 px and nothing else. It does not know which placement or account type you are using, and Shutterstock may crop, recompress or re-scale an upload on its side. Keep important content away from the edges, and check Shutterstock's current guidelines for the placement you are working on.
How to resize an image for Shutterstock thumbnail
- Add your image. Select a photo or drag it onto the box above. JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC and BMP files are accepted, and the file stays on your device.
- Crop to 4:3 (recommended). The output is 4000 × 3000 px, a 4:3 shape. Cropping to that shape first with the built-in Crop tool decides what stays in frame and avoids distortion.
- Confirm the size and format. The preset fills in 4000 × 3000 px. Choose JPG for photos or PNG for graphics with sharp edges or transparency.
- Download the resized image. Click resize and save the file. The result uses Lanczos-3 resampling, which keeps edges clean when scaling down.
