The target here is 5 × 5 px: a square 1:1 image of 0 megapixels. The preset fills in both dimensions for you, so you only need to add the photo and download the result.
Because the output size is fixed, the photo's own shape matters: if it is not 1:1, you either crop it or it gets distorted. The table below shows how much each common photo shape loses.
| Output size | 5 × 5 px |
|---|---|
| Aspect ratio | 1:1 (square) |
| Total pixels | 25 (0 MP) |
| Prints at 300 DPI | 0 × 0 in (0 × 0 cm) |
Fitting a photo into 5 × 5 px
Resizing to a fixed width and height only gives a clean result when the photo has the same shape as the target. A shape mismatch has two outcomes: the picture is stretched, or part of it is cropped. Crop first, then resize, so you decide what is cut. This is how much of each common photo would be lost to fill 1:1:
| Starting photo | Cropped away to fill the shape |
|---|---|
| Phone photo (4000 × 3000, 4:3) | About 25% of the image |
| DSLR photo (6000 × 4000, 3:2) | About 33% of the image |
| Video frame (1920 × 1080, 16:9) | About 44% of the image |
| Portrait phone photo (3000 × 4000, 3:4) | About 25% of the image |
Size, quality and file weight
25 pixels saved as a JPG at web quality typically weigh about 0 KB to 0.01 KB, depending on how much detail the picture contains. Flat graphics and screenshots saved as PNG compress very well when colors are simple, and poorly when they contain photographic gradients.
At icon size, pixel accuracy matters more than compression. Export as PNG to keep edges sharp, and check the result at 100% zoom.
How large can it be printed?
These figures follow from the pixel count: print size = pixels ÷ DPI. Going above the 300 DPI row gives no visible benefit; going below it looks softer.
| Quality | DPI | Print size |
|---|---|---|
| Screen-resolution draft | 72 | 0.1 × 0.1 in (0.2 × 0.2 cm) |
| Acceptable for posters | 150 | 0 × 0 in (0.1 × 0.1 cm) |
| Photo quality | 300 | 0 × 0 in (0 × 0 cm) |
How to resize an image to 5x5 px
- Add your image. Select a photo or drag it onto the box above. JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC and BMP files are accepted, and the file stays on your device.
- Crop to 1:1 (recommended). The output is 5 × 5 px, a 1:1 shape. Cropping to that shape first with the built-in Crop tool decides what stays in frame and avoids distortion.
- Confirm the size and format. The preset fills in 5 × 5 px. Choose JPG for photos or PNG for graphics with sharp edges or transparency.
- Download the resized image. Click resize and save the file. The result uses Lanczos-3 resampling, which keeps edges clean when scaling down.
