This preset resizes any image to exactly 800 × 800 px. The output is a square 1:1 frame of 640,000 pixels in total (0.64 megapixels), which counts as a medium-sized image by photo standards.

Because the output size is fixed, the photo's own shape matters: if it is not 1:1, you either crop it or it gets distorted. The table below shows how much each common photo shape loses.

Fitting a photo into 800 × 800 px

Resizing to a fixed width and height only gives a clean result when the photo has the same shape as the target. A shape mismatch has two outcomes: the picture is stretched, or part of it is cropped. Crop first, then resize, so you decide what is cut. This is how much of each common photo would be lost to fill 1:1:

Starting photoCropped away to fill the shape
Phone photo (4000 × 3000, 4:3)About 25% of the image
DSLR photo (6000 × 4000, 3:2)About 33% of the image
Video frame (1920 × 1080, 16:9)About 44% of the image
Portrait phone photo (3000 × 4000, 3:4)About 25% of the image

Size, quality and file weight

640,000 pixels saved as a JPG at web quality typically weigh about 62.5 KB to 187.5 KB, depending on how much detail the picture contains. Flat graphics and screenshots saved as PNG compress very well when colors are simple, and poorly when they contain photographic gradients.

For photos, JPG or WebP are good choices; for logos, text or transparency, PNG keeps edges clean.

How large can it be printed?

These figures follow from the pixel count: print size = pixels ÷ DPI. Going above the 300 DPI row gives no visible benefit; going below it looks softer.

How to resize an image to 800x800 px

  1. Add your image. Select a photo or drag it onto the box above. JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC and BMP files are accepted, and the file stays on your device.
  2. Crop to 1:1 (recommended). The output is 800 × 800 px, a 1:1 shape. Cropping to that shape first with the built-in Crop tool decides what stays in frame and avoids distortion.
  3. Confirm the size and format. The preset fills in 800 × 800 px. Choose JPG for photos or PNG for graphics with sharp edges or transparency.
  4. Download the resized image. Click resize and save the file. The result uses Lanczos-3 resampling, which keeps edges clean when scaling down.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize an image to 800x800 px without stretching it?▼
Crop the photo to 1:1 first (the built-in Crop tool does this), then apply the preset. If you skip the crop and your photo has a different shape, the result is either stretched or cut off. For example, a 4:3 phone photo needs about 25% of its area cropped to become 1:1.
What aspect ratio is 800 × 800?▼
1:1, a square. It has 0.64 megapixels. Width and height are equal.
How big will a 800 × 800 file be?▼
As a JPG at web quality, usually between 62.5 KB and 187.5 KB; photographic PNGs are several times larger. To fit a specific limit, use one of the file-size presets after resizing, or set a target size in the editor.
What if my photo is smaller than 800 × 800?▼
The tool will enlarge it, but enlarging cannot add detail, so the result looks soft. Starting from a photo at least as large as 800 × 800 gives a much sharper result.
Which format should I use for 800 × 800?▼
JPG or WebP for photographs; PNG for graphics, screenshots and anything with transparency. AVIF can be smaller still, but it encodes more slowly and some older apps cannot open it.
How large can I print a 800 × 800 px image?▼
About 2.7 × 2.7 in (6.8 × 6.8 cm) at 300 DPI (photo quality) and 5.3 × 5.3 in (13.5 × 13.5 cm) at 150 DPI (acceptable for posters viewed from a distance).
Do I need an account, and does it add a watermark?▼
No account and no watermark. Open the page, add your photo, and download the result. Because processing happens on your own device, there is no queue and nothing to wait for, even with a large original.
