Social Media & Community Image Sizes

Social platforms crop, recompress and re-scale whatever you post. Uploading a picture at the exact output size you want, with the right shape, keeps the platform from making that choice for you.

Each preset outputs one exact width and height. The page explains the shape (square, portrait, wide banner), how much of a typical photo will be cropped, and what to keep away from the edges. Platforms change their recommendations from time to time, so confirm the current figures in the platform's own help pages if exact compliance matters.

Tips for this category

  • Keep faces and text away from the edges: banners and avatars are often cropped or masked by the platform.
  • Export photos as JPG and graphics with sharp text as PNG.
  • Upload at the stated size or larger, never a tiny version that the platform will have to enlarge.
